Whats Covered:

Alberta Health and Wellness covers one full eye exam a year for Albertans aged: 19 under,   and 65+

Alberta Health and Wellness covers medically necessary optometric services for Albertians regardless of age 

(Patients between the ages of 19-64 are responsible for the cost of their routine eye exam, typically covered by secondary insurance)

Medically Necessary services include such things as (and many more):

  • Monitoring for diabetes-related issues, glaucoma, macular degeneration and retinal disease
  • Pre and post-operative care for cataract patients
  • Eye infections or injuries
  • Foreign objects in the eye
